The Xbox One is now over two years old and the third of Microsoft’s home consoles. Despite Sony leading the sales charts, the Xbox One has still been a huge success with a massive fanbase.
During an interview with The Verge, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer admitted the likelihood of another Xbox console to be very high. He said:
“I fully expect that you’ll see another console from us.”
While continuing on to say:
“Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future. I’m 100 percent committed to that.”
Despite a recent push from Microsoft towards PC gaming again, they are very proud of their flagship consoles and wish to continue that brand. Microsoft’s involvement with games began a long time before the original Xbox console released but the retention of their fans is of most importance to them, with millions of them preferring to spend money on a new console as opposed to an upgraded PC.
Considering there was a whole 8 years between the release of the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One, don’t expect to see the next console anytime soon. However, this revelation from the Head of Xbox does mean we will have a next-generation Microsoft console to look forward to.
