Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey reiterated its release date at the PC Gaming Show, while divulging some information on the game’s mechanics.
While on stage, creative director Patrice Désilets devolved into some more oblique commentary on the game, focusing on how Ancestors will feature no linear story. Instead, players will be “writing the story” through gameplay, a design reaction to Désilets’s dissatisfaction with linear storytelling.
Players assume the role of a group of pre-historical primates as they evolve from prey to predator. The key to evolution, according to Désilets, is “curiosity,” where intuitive players are rewarded for thinking outside the box.
