PlayStation has announced that Worldwide Studios head Shawn Layden will be leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment after more than three decades .
“It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE,” PlayStation confirmed on Twitter.
“His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!”
Layden joined the company in 1987 and has since climbed the ranks to become president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America in 2014. In 2018, Sony’s regional divisions were brought under one roof with Layden serving as Worldwide Studios head, making regular public appearances as the face of PlayStation at events such as E3 and The Game Awards.
Specific details about Layden’s departure have yet to be given, including plans for a replacement, though more is sure to be revealed over the coming weeks.
