The Playstation Network hits Journey and The Unfinished Swan are getting a Playstation 4 re-release.
Today, via the Playstation Blog, thatgamecompany and Giant Sparrow, the developers of Journey and The Unfinished Swan respectively, confirmed that their respective titles would both be coming to Playstation 4.
For thatgamecompany, Jenova Chen, the development teams’ President and Creative Director, stated that despite the two and half years since release, new players are still attracted to Journey thanks to referrals by those who have played the game. These new players enjoy the added benefit of a large community of veterans who try to help newbies as much as anyone can in a game with no microphone and only a chirping sound made by the Journeyer.
Because of the work put in by fellow developer Tricky Pixels, Playstation 4 owners will be able to enjoy the magic and indescribable beauty of Journey later this year in full 1080p.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Journey pits players as a robed traveler who wakes up in the middle of a giant desert. In the otherwise bleak landscape is a towering mountain with a beam of light shooting out from the top, serving as a giant beacon saying “Walk in this direction!” Along the way, players learn about what happened to the area and civilization that lived there while having the option to join other players on the same quest to the top of the mountain.
As for Giant Sparrow, Ian Dallas, the Creative Director of the development team, confirmed that The Unfinished Swan is coming to Playstation 4 later this year as well thanks to the work of Armature Studio. Dallas added that the game is playable in 1080p at the Sony booth at Gamescom.
The Unfinished Swan is about the players’ journey through a hidden kingdom while chasing after a mysterious runaway swan. Being among the more abstract Playstation Network titles available, the game requires players to throw paint around on the screen in order to reveal the environment, surroundings, and creatures around them. The puzzles get more and more complex as players progress through the game until they finally find the King who created the kingdom.
