There’s been an unsettling deficit of good dinosaur-themed FPS games lately. Turok was ok, though that came out back in 2008, and Orion: Dino Beatdown was more or less a flop. Then there was Jurassic: The Hunted, but, well…. that was Jurassic: The Hunted.

Worry not though, as Jurassic Life, an upcoming total conversion mod for Half-life 2, aims to bring players an excellent dinosaur-ish experience. And what better way to do this than by remaking what is arguably the best film about dinosaurs ever made?

Being developed by a team of talented volunteers, the mod is essentially a recreation of Spielberg’s film in video game form. The attention to detail here is simply astounding, featuring convincing jungle foliage and dinosaurs with lifelike behavior and animations. The locations all look extremely faithful to their film counterparts, and the general atmosphere and pacing looks to be shaping up very well.

The latest official Jurassic Park game to come out was Telltale’s episodic point-and-click adventure game, simply titled Jurassic Park: The Game. It released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 last year and received mixed reviews.

Stay tuned for more news on this promising mod as it nears closer to completion, which should be sometime this year.
