Capcom announced today via Twitter that Resident Evil 6 has officially gone gold, thus locking in its October 2nd release date. While that news may not be too surprising, they also released the RE.net video from last week’s Gamescom press conference. This site is a sort of free community hub for the game, allowing you to see various stats, friend status, and Mercenaries scores. It will also include numerous unlockables and online events, the winner of which will receive some sort of digital “championship belt.” Can my avatar wear it?
Interestingly enough, though the blog refers to the site as “RE.net”, the actually domain is “residentevil.net”. The former is actually up for grabs, but we’re sure Capcom will snatch it up before to long to to prevent squatters.
According to Capcom’s blog, the site will “give the game legs for months after launch”. Considering how many gripes we’ve heard from fans who are upset will the series’ action-focused direction, it will be interesting to see how the site fares. If nothing else, we have to give them credit for attempting a “free” method of expanding the gameplay and extending the game’s longevity, rather than just resorting to paid DLC. Check out the video below for a detailed description of RE.net straight from Capcom.
As aforementioned, Resident Evil 6 will hit store shelves on October 2nd for the XBox 360 and PS3. Stay tuned to OnlySP for more news and make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-the-minute information.
