Rocwise Entertainment has released a free playable demo for its story-driven horror-adventure game, Curse of Anabelle.

Curse of Anabelle is a puzzle- and story-driven adventure game set in the Ramsey Mansion following the mysterious death of a nine year old girl, Anabelle. Gameplay features Resident Evil-style graphics with a Blair Witch-esque first-person camera angle.

In addition, players are required to use a variety of methods to progress through the story such as reading mystic books, crafting ancient seals, fighting malevolent forces, and travel between different timelines.

According to the game’s Steam page, the narrative design is based on real world myths and legends. Players will take on the role of Anabelle’s older sister, Emily, who begins to have dreams about her sister’s unexplained death.

Emily is convinced that she is communicating with Annabelle’s soul. However, as Emily and her boyfriend Nathan investigate the death and uncover the dark mysteries of the Ramsey Mansion, their lives are put into danger.

Whilst the game’s release date is yet to be revealed, Rocwise updated its Kickstarter page stating it has removed the project due to not being able to reach the GBP£13,000 funding target within the set time frame. However, the studio confirmed it will explore alternative funding plans to continue development of the title:

“We’re already working on potential alternative plans for funding the last stretch of development, and we will make every effort to make Curse of Anabelle a great gaming experience for you all.”

Curse of Anabelle‘s playable demo is currently available on PC via Steam.
