Retro Studios To Make Next Zelda Game?

0

However unlikely it may seem, there is a small possibility that Retro Studios, makers of the Metroid Prime series, could end up developing the next Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U.

If you’ve never played any of the Metroid Prime games for the GameCube and the Wii, you’re missing out.  They’re a perfect blend of action, puzzles, and mystery that hold true to the ideals of the Metroid mythos.  If Retro does end up taking hold of Zelda, I wouldn’t see any reason to be worried, as long as they treat the franchise with the same level of reverence that they do with Metroid.  In fact, I’d be really excited to see what Retro could do with the series, given that it’s been in the hands of the Japanese since it’s inception.

Miyamoto recently did an interview with IGN, and had this to say about the possibility of Retro taking over his franchise:

Traditionally I think that the Zelda team has always had a close contact with anyone who’s working on a Zelda game. If you were going to have that happen in the US at Retro, that would be kind of difficult for them to be able to coordinate. Certainly they’re too busy for that sort of thing right now. It would probably require me to be involved to a great extent as well, so I would have to get over quite a bit too. I’d probably have to live in Texas… [laughs]

Of course, it’s way too early to be talking about the next Zelda entry, but speculating sure does make things a lot more interesting.  There’s rumor of Retro’s next title being a new StarFox or Metroid game, but the Studio is keeping its mouth shut tightly.  All we do know is that it’s “a project everyone wants us to do.”  Even Reggie Fils-Amie was cagey about releasing any information about Retro’s next title which, while not unusal, adds to the general feeling of anticipation about the project.

All we do know is this:  Whatever it is that Retro is currently working on, it’s probably not a new Zelda title.  But whatever it actually is, it sounds like it’s going to be fantastic.  Be sure to check back on OnlySP for any and all updates and new developments to this story.
