Rhianna Pratchett no Longer Working on Tomb Raider

0

Crystal Dynamics has announced that Rhianna Pratchett, the lead writer of the Tomb Raider reboot, has left the franchise.

The excellent writing of the rebooted series has been widely regarded as one of its strongest points, an achievement for which Pratchett is credited.

The split was, by all accounts, amicable, in order to allow Pratchett to move onto other projects. Both the developer and writer released a joint statement on Twitter to reveal the news, and share a mutual thanks for their work together, as well as to the fans, and mention the positive impact the series has had on the gaming industry.

Pratchett herself went on to say, “I’m packing up my climbing axe plus a little venison jerky for the road, and bidding a fond farewell to Lara. Onwards to new adventures!”

Having also worked on titles such as Mirror’s Edge and Heavenly Sword, as well as the Overlord series, whatever story Pratchett comes up with next is sure to enthrall players with strong characters and engaging plots.

While rumors have seemingly revealed the title of the next, and perhaps final entry of the supposed trilogy, as Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics have yet to officially announce the third game. It is unknown whether Pratchett will work or has already worked on that sequel, and her replacement has not been publicly revealed either.

Still, fans should not be worried about the sequel. Though having Rise of the Tomb Raider a timed exclusive for the Xbox One limited sales, it was still well received in much the same way as its predecessor back in 2013, and Crystal Dynamics is unlikely to abandon the assumed final chapter at this point. Stay tuned for more information as the year goes on, and make sure to give Pratchett a follow on Twitter to keep track of whatever game she works on next.
