After releasing two rip-roaring Need for Speed reboots in the form of Hot Pursuit in 2010 and Most Wanted just last year, it appears Burnout developer Criterion Studios may be preparing to do a similar treatment for the street racing sub-series Underground, if this new rumor is anything to go by.
Publication EGMnow has just been given the above image by an anonymous source, who told them that it is to be the game’s official logo and will be incorporated into the cover art for the Xbox 360 version.
The source stated that Criterion are returning to develop the title, which will supposedly be open-world and set in the city of Bayview, a re-envisioned version of the location of the same name from 2004’s Underground 2.
That’s not all, though. The Linkedin profile for Criterion’s Cinematic Artist lists an “Unannounced Title” from EA Games in 2013 as part of his resume, and the same goes for the studio’s aArt Director. That can’t be a coincidence.
If the game really is in development, then the source’s claims of an Xbox 360 version indicate that it’ll be a current generation release. However, with the PS4 and ‘NextBox’ on their way, as well as EA’s enthusiastic outlook on the next generation, could the title also be in development for next-gen consoles as well?
What do you think, single-players? What would you want to see from a third Need For Speed title by Criterion? let us know, and stay tuned for more news on the matter.
