Rumor: Sledgehammer working on Modern Warfare 4?

2

We’re finally starting to peer through the fog of rumors surrounding MW4.

Sledgehammer Games, the folks who assisted with the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, have just posted a job listing on Gamasutra that hints at them working on the next title in the series.

The job listing is for Senior Environment Artist and states the following:

We are actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty development team. If you are passionate and driven to do your best work, and have a desire to work on the most successful FPS franchise in the history of video games, please apply online.

[He/she] Will be expected to create single player and multi-player levels under the direction of the art director and the creative director.

[He/she] Will insure that the level works on all relevant platforms, Xbox 360, PS3.

So in other words, they’re working on a Call of Duty title that will release on current-gen consoles and will once again feature a campaign in addition to multiplayer. Whether or not this title is Modern Warfare 4 is yet to be known, but it’s a distinct possibility.

  1. What interests me is that they are developing the next Call of Duty for current gen consoles. It&#039s widely tipped that next-gen consoles will be announced at the start of next year, and should see a release around the same time Call of Duty usually releases. If that rumour is true, it would make sense to release the next COD on next gen platforms, as it would be a great launch title, at least in terms of boosting sales. By releasing it on current gen platforms, especially if next-gen consoles are launched next year, I can see that affecting sales. I can&#039t imagine a new console launching without COD attached to it.
