Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok Potentially Leaked, Details Include Map Size, Main Character, Gameplay Details, and More

A leak on 4Chan, as preserved on ResetEra, has revealed a bunch of exciting details for the next Assassin’s Creed project reportedly entitled Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok.

Previously, the as-of-yet untitled Assassin’s Creed game was confirmed to be codenamed Kingdom, but the leak suggests that its actual name is Ragnarok. The game will set place in roughly 845AD in several kingdoms of Northern Europe, encompassing Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, players will assume the role of an ally of Ragnar Lodbrok, the legendary Viking king of Denmark and Sweden, around the time he is forming the Great Heathen Army. Players will be an assassin, complete with a quintessential hidden blade. Lore-wise, the game is rumoured to include finding a First Civilisation vault and legendary relics like Mjolnir.

In gameplay terms, these kingdoms will hold settlements that include customisation and in-game economy systems. The game will see a return of  Odyssey‘s”conquest battles,” which are used to weaken enemies and their hold on parts of the land. Continuing Odyssey‘s RPG-centric design, Ragnarok will include RPG systems, as well as the eagle and ship combat, although the game will “[focus] on exploration, removing question marks on the map, and making players explore.” On the surface, Ragnorak appears to be toning down quests for open-world exploration.

Other details include an emphasis on build and armour use, the ability to alter notoriety-changing outfits on the fly, and the inclusion of co-operative play. Creative director Ashraf Ismail will take the helm, with Darby McDevvit as narrative director. Ubisoft Sofia is rumoured to assist in creating DLC, which may be set in Iceland involving Yggdrasil.

A series of screenshots set in a Scandinavian-looking village were also leaked, including a look at character designs, ships, architecture, and weapons.

While the leak should probably be taken with a grain of salt, it does fall in line with The Division 2‘s Assassin’s Creed Easter egg discovered last month.

Tim Schafer: No Plans for Brutal Legend 2, but ‘Never Say Never’

Brutal Legend

Double Fine’s heavy-metal mashup, Brutal Legend, has gone some time without a proper sequel and Double Fine head Tim Schafer thinks there is still some waiting to do.

During a press Q&A session at E3 2019, Schafer was asked about the possibility of a sequel to the Jack Black-starring action-adventure game. Though Schafer says Double Fine would like to move on to something new first, a sequel may certainly still happen.

“That’s a fun universe, too, that I’d love to back to, but now we’ve been in sequel mode for a few years and it’d be nice to do something new…but never say never.”

Schafer commented on the possibility of a Brutal Legend 2 two years back, stating that fans will eventually see a sequel. During that same report, Schafer teased that Brutal Legend 2 would be an expensive game to make.

This most recent update at least reaffirms Schafer’s fondness for the series, even if the Double Fine team wants a break from sequels.

Brutal Legend released to generally strong reviews, with many praising its comedy and unique world.
