Heavily inspired by the likes of Diablo and Baldur’s Gate, the Sacred series has not garnered the same popularity and critical acclaim as some of the other titles in the top-down, hack-n-slash RPG genre.  However, its enormous game worlds, endless flow of enemies, and somewhat campy narrative have developed a solid cult following.  Those folks will be pleased to get their first look at the third installment in the series, as well as a few details about the story.

First announced back in 2010, Sacred 3 will take players back to to the land of Ancaria for another romp through a massive gameworld ripe for exploration.  The newly announced main antagonist, Zane Ashen, ruler or the corrupt Ashen Empire, will oppose players as they battle for the powerful Heart of Ancaria.  Again, teams of up to four players will be able to team up against the hordes of enemies, combining special powers with their partners’ for especially devestating results.

Sticking with the top-down perspective from previous installments, Sacred 3 will employ a camera locked in the isometric view.  At some points in the game, the camera will actual zoom in closer to ground-level to highlight scale and scope, as well as create a more immersive experience.

Along with the above details, developer Keen Games has offered up a few screenshots (below).  Just looking at them gets me amped to set out on another 100+ hour adventure through the lands of Ancaria.  We’re looking forward to some more details in the near future and will make sure to stay on top of this title.  Sacred 3 is slated to release in 2013 for PC, XBox 360, and PS3.

I'm a new dad, gaming machine, and beard aficionado. With a little one in the house, I've come to embrace the single-player experience, as it is much less likely to send me into a profanity-laced, controller-throwing tantrum. Writing and video games are two of my greatest passions, so this is a natural fit for me. As long as it doesn't require me to perform coordinated dance moves in front of my Kinect, i'm willing to pen my thoughts on it. Aside from gaming, I love music (Smashing Pumpkins), coffee (Red-Eye), and sushi (Yellowtail). All offerings of my aforementioned favorites will be accepted with open arms and, if you're lucky, i'll let you touch my beard. Just don't pull on it. That hurts.
