After Thursday’s surprise Super Smash Brothers announcement, Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that he is heavily involved with the Switch entry of Nintendo’s classic series.
Sakurai, who has famously worked on every Smash Brothers game so far, took to Twitter to announce and explain his involvement with next Smash Brothers game. Though he gave no concrete information regarding whether or not Thursday’s teaser was for a port or a new game, Sakurai did give some insight into just how much time he has put into the upcoming title.
A tweet from SourceGaming was able to mostly translate the tweet to English: “While we have not gotten to the point where we can announce the game’s title, I have been working on the title in silence day after day,” Sakurai’s translated tweet reads. “Please look forward to new information and when the title goes on sale!!”
Super Smash Brothers for Wii U notoriously put a lot of strain on the longtime Kirby and Smash director, so fans have been skeptical on whether or not Sakurai would return for the Switch Smash Brothers. Regardless of potential serious health risk, Sakurai is back and so is Smash Brothers, and the world cannot wait.
Thankfully, if Sakurai’s hints and the trailers release window are anything to go off, fans will not have to wait long to get their hands on Super Smash Brothers. With 2018’s first quarter already coming to a close, a new Smash Brothers cannot be more than nine months away.
Until then, speculation will be rampant and theories will be thriving in the Smash community. Soon, Super Smash Brothers’s working title will be a thing of the past.
