Redlock Studio has at last unveiled the initial launch date for its hardcore action game Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King.

The Early Access release will take place on June 4, with the team planning to have the final version ready before the end of 2019. According to the Steam page, the developer sees the Early Access period as a “beta,” with the core mechanics in place, but more enemies, areas, and story content to come.

In a statement, Redlock art director and co-founder Maxime René Beisser said, “We’re so glad to have been able to work all these years with our community’s never-ending support, and we’re eager to take this new step. It’s a dream come true, and a pleasure to see our universe drawing people’s attention, making them want to get immersed in it and support us to make Shattered the best game possible.”

For anyone unaware, Shattered – Tale of the Forgotten King is an adventure game that switches between 2.5D and 3D as players explores the semi-open world of Hypnos. Featuring tough boss battles, RPG mechanics, and a mysterious world, the team claims to have been inspired by the likes of Dark Souls, Legacy of Kain, and Shadow of the Colossus.

Although the digital version has only been in development for two and a half years, the game was originally conceived and explored as a pen-and-paper RPG more than a decade ago. The story of those origins, and much more information about the development process, story, and gameplay is available in the interview OnlySP’s Sep Gohardani conducted with writer Laureline Denis-Venuat last year.
