In our recent interview with the team over at Frictional Games, we discussed quite a few things regarding their latest project, SOMA. With the coming of the latest generation of gaming, many are interested in what resolution and frame-rates their games will run at.
In our interview, Thomas Grip the Creative Director of SOMA told us, “For the average PC rig we want to run at 1080p and 60fps. Hope is we can do this for PS4 too, but too early to tell.”
Grip also told us about some of the new graphical enhancements coming to SOMA. As you may remember, Amnesia: The Dark Descent wasn’t exactly a top notch game graphically, but for SOMA the development team is implementing a bunch of new lighting techniques to match their new sci-fi world they’re creating.
Grip explained, “There is a lot of new stuff since Amnesia, but I am not sure we have anything really noteworthy.” He continued, “For us, the biggest addition has been HDR which, once we got used to it, has been a great tool to craft atmospheric environments. The same goes for improved SSAO, color grading and thing like that. It’s not bleeding edge stuff, but it is really, really helpful”
We’ll have more details to share on SOMA later in the day today so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with all the latest.
