Sony Reveals PlayStation Plus Games for December

SOMA Title Screen (PlayStation Plus)

The free PlayStation Plus games for December 2018 have been revealed.

This new batch of games for PlayStation Plus subscribers was announced via the PlayStation Blog, and fans of racing, horror, platforming, or indie games will probably find something to love. The most high profile game on the list is probably SOMA, from Amnesia: The Dark Descent developer Frictional Games. SOMA is a sci-fi horror game that courts themes of identity, the meaning of humanity, and isolation.

“Whereas a fantasy-style horror is more common in the genre of late, SOMA is firmly rooted in the sci-fi realm with a heavy dose of philosophy, examining the ethos surrounding the marriage of humanity and technology,” said OnlySP’s James Schumacher. “It’s different, which is good, but it may not do quite enough to separate itself from the pack. The suspense and horror the game creates is real until players realize there isn’t much in the way of challenge when it comes to puzzles, and the penalties for being caught have no real weight.”

Made by racing specialists Codemasters, Onrush is a fast-paced, vehicular combat action game. The developers promise a return to golden age of arcade style racing, sensational speed, fun, and over-the-top spectacle. Iconoclasts is a highly rated action-adventure platformer with a beautiful retro graphics, puzzles and screen-filling bosses.

The full list of next month’s PlayStation Plus lineup of games includes:

Players can download these games starting December 4, 2018, all the way through January 1, 2019.

Spider-Man

Sony Interactive Entertainment has posted an advertisement on LinkedIn for both an audio designer and senior audio designer, sparking rumours of a Spider-Man sequel.

The recent hirings indicate that Insomniac is indeed working on something new for PlayStation fans to enjoy. With Spider-Man being such a massive hit alongside an officially licensed comic expanding on Insomniac’s Spider-verse, players could get a sequel sooner rather than later.

The official job posting requirements for the senior audio designer are as follows:

“Responsible for being an active and key contributor for the creative direction and style for audio assets and workflow processes throughout a production cycle. Creates, edits, and implements game-ready audio. Works closely with the rest of the audio team to maintain a high level of quality and consistency of assets.”

While the job posting does not guarantee a sequel, PlayStation fans can rest easy knowing another juicy exclusive is in the pipeline.
