Bandai Namco increased the hype for its upcoming fighting game, SoulCalibur VI, by tweeting out a new gameplay trailer for the game, starring the newest addition, Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series.
Along with Geralt, the trailer showed off a new stage, Kaer Morhen, also from The Witcher universe. Geralt’s moveset was teased, including some footage of his familiar pirouette-heavy fighting stance and usage of signs.

The SoulCalibur series is not shy when incorporating other company’s mascots, with SoulCalibur 2 starring Heihachi, Link, and Spawn, and SoulCalibur 4 having Darth Vader, The Apprentice, and Yoda, of Star Wars fame.
Typically, each character is limited by console exclusivity, with Link only appearing on the GameCube version of the game, for example. Oddly enough, the series has become the closest video games have come to any explicit intertextuality.
Rumours began circulating earlier this month when Marcin Momot, community lead for The Witcher series, tweeted out that Geralt may be appearing in another franchise. Fans began coming up with all sorts of theories, including Smash Bros. and Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but the majority guessed correctly with SoulCalibur, given the series’ past inclusiveness.
There has been no confirmation of other characters joining Geralt, or if some characters will be gated off by exclusivity, but typically the series works with three guest characters per game, so players can anticipate more additions before SoulCalibur VI‘s release later this year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
