Oh dear. It hasn’t even been two months since Dead Space 3 came out and already the gaming world has seemingly forgotten about it, which on reflection probably isn’t totally undeserved. But hey, let’s verge away from any implied disappointments the game may have had and focus on one of its undeniable strengths; its soundtrack.
Today’s track, titled “Cry of the Ancients,” plays during the credits of Dead Space 3 as well as a few other select narrative moments in the game. Essentially two songs mixed into one, the initial segment is a sweeping orchestral melody of bombastic and bittersweet despair while the second part is a more restrained and deeply emotional piece featuring some truly puncturing piano melodies. Anyone else get a Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back feel from some of this track? The game being primarily set on a snowy planet leads me to believe this can’t be a coincidence. Have a listen below and let us know what you think!
The track was composed by James Hannigan, a British composer who has scored the likes of the Dead Space series, Runescape, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, and many other games. You can check out his official site here.
