A report has surfaced over at Eurogamer this morning that The Banner Saga 2 has been delayed, and that the future of the console ports of the original game is unclear. Apparently nobody told Stoic Studio this information.
Eurogamer recently spoke to publisher Versus Evil about the status of The Banner Saga 2 and has learned that the game will be released during the first quarter of 2016. The Banner Saga 2 was originally scheduled to release in 2015. The report also talks about the console ports of the original game, and whether or not they’re still coming.
A port to PS4 was announced for 2015 but the wires have since gone cold, and publisher Versus Evil wouldn’t directly clarify what was going on. A spokesperson told me he thought Banner Saga 2 would be the next release from developer Stoic, which suggests The Banner Saga 1 won’t happen on PS4 before Q1 2016 – if it happens at all.
The report was later picked up by Gameinformer and then sent Stoic Studios’ way who then told GI the, “the console ports are actually going great – putting on the final touches for both X1 and PS4 now.” In a related tweet, the developer also mentioned they’re “excited” about the near future of The Banner Saga so it’s quite possible we’ll be hearing more about The Banner Saga 2 sooner rather than later.
