Summerfall Studios

Summerfall Studios has announced the studio will transfer its crowdfunding project to Fig due to Kickstarter’s stance on unionization.

The studio, formed by David Gaider and Liam Esler, made the announcement via Twitter, and cited Kickstarter as the reason for its decision:

“In light of recent statements from @Kickstarter regarding unionisation, we’ve made the decision to move our crowdfunding campaign to [Fig]. We hope Kickstarter voluntarily recognises [Kickstarter United].”

Kickstarter recently published a statement via Twitter whereby the crowdfunding company stated it would back unionization if it was voted for by staff in a National Labor Relations Board-certified election.

“Kickstarter will recognize a union if our staff votes for one in an NLRB-certified election. That’s the fair and democratic path forward. We have to protect the rights of all our staff members, those who want a union and those who don’t. This is their decision, not ours.”

Kickstarter United was set up to be a representative of Kickstarter employees. Furthermore, the group has actively campaigned Kickstarter to voluntarily recognize the group as an official unionized body.

Yesterday, KSR United revealed it “officially requested voluntary recognition of our union, and we are waiting to see if it will be granted.”

Summerfall Studios is set to announce its illustrated character-driven adventure project at PAX Australia on October 11.

  1. I will back this because of Dave Gaider. It’s good to see him active again, I honestly don’t understand what he was doing those 2 years at Beamdog, they never released anything in that time and it felt like complete waste of valuable, talented industry veteran’s time.

    1. I feel as though Beamdog has to be working on more expansions like Siege of Dragonspear. As you said, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to have someone of Gaider’s calibre around just for ports and remasters… Definitely looking forward to seeing more of what’s going on at Summerfall though.
