The SEGA team behind Team Sonic Racing showed off a vehicle customization trailer for its upcoming title at today’s SXSW panel.
SEGA of America staff members Jasmin Hernandez, Aaron Webber, Jun Senoue, and Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka appeared during this panel to give a slew of updates to the world of Sonic the Hedgehog. Included in their talk was a video previewing the vast customization options that will be available in Team Sonic Racing, expected in around two months.
The video, which was later posted to the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account, teases the following features:
- Performance modifications, which allow players to swap out their vehicle’s parts to modify performance
- Horns, which allow players to change the sound of their vehicle’s horn
- Paints, which allow players to completely change the color of their vehicle
- Vinyl, which allow players to add a wide range of designs to their vehicle
Of these options, the performance modifications appear to be the most robust as they allow players to change the feel of their vehicle. As with many other kart racers, vehicles in Team Sonic Racing have RPG-like statistics, such as acceleration, boost, and defense. Changes to the vehicle’s performance modifications enhance these.
Team Sonic Racing is set to launch for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One on May 21, 2019, following a recent delay.
