The Messenger Picnic Panic

During the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, publisher Devolver Digital announced free DLC for this year’s action-platform game The Messenger.

Picnic Panic will be released for PC and Nintendo Switch in 2019. The game will add three new levels and extra bosses.

Sabotage Studio first promoted The Messenger in January, boasting the retro-inspired gameplay. Described as “an open love letter to the good old retro-console games from the late 80s and early 90s,” The Messenger initially presents itself as an 8-bit action platformer before revealing an “epic time travelling tale” and evolving into a 16-bit Metroidvania “packed with replay value and deadpan humour.” The game was released in August 2018.

Rhain discovered a long time ago that mixing one of his passions (video games) with the other (writing) might be a good idea, and now he’s been stuck in the industry for over six years with no means of escaping. His favourite games are those with deep and captivating narratives: while it would take far too long to list them all, some include L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption (and its sequel), Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Last of Us, and the Uncharted series.
