As part of the EA Play livestream event earlier today, EA unveiled the next Expansion Pack for The Sims 4.

‘Island Living’ is set to launch on June 21 for PC (with a July 16 release on consoles) and will bring a plethora of new options and content to the game.

Foremost among the new content is the new world of Sulani, a tropical island inspired by Polynesian cultures. To lend this new environment a sense of authenticity, Maxis is incorporating traditions and other behaviours that aim to suggest a long-held connection to the land. One such mechanic is the presence of Elementals, spirits who take care of the island.

However, the new additions go much deeper than that. The new Conservationist career path will have players cleaning up and protecting the environment, and a handful of odd jobs will also make their way into the game.

One of the more intriguing aspects of the new career is that the island itself will respond to player actions, becoming more lush if it is taken care of.

For the first time in The Sims series, the new pack will add in open water gameplay. Sims will be able to walk into the water directly from the beach to swim, snorkel, and interact with aquatic animals including dolphins. These activities will also be expanded through the inclusion of mermaid characters who have special powers, though the team did not go into detail as to what they are.

On land, a host of new activities will be available, such as building sandcastles, sunbathing, or collecting sea shells.

As expected, the expansion will also introduce new traits, such as those that increase character affinities with water or the natural environment.

The trailer for the new expansion, which includes a look at the new gameplay, decor items, and other miscellaneous feature is embedded below.
