Just a few days ago, we reported on a rumored first image from CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3. Well, it looks like those rumors actually turned out to be true. As the cover of the most recent issue of Game Informer (seen above, click to enlarge) confirms, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is real and headed your way. Digital subscribers to the publication have already begun reporting that they’ve received the issue in question and have revealed a few details.
The series’ protagonist, Geralt, will be returning, this time with his memory intact. New missions will include everything from fighting monsters to solving mysteries, but on his own terms, as he is no longer fighting for others. All of this will take place across a seamless storyline without chapters or acts. If that’s not enough to get you excited, Wild Hunt’s game world will be enormous – about 20 percent larger than than that of Skyrim – and take approximately 30-40 minutes to cross on horseback. Also, it looks like Geralt is sporting a beard these days and that always gets two thumbs up!
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will use CD Projekt Red’s new REDengine 3, which was the subject of the original news story that sparked the aforementioned rumor. According to the GI article, it will launch for “all top-of-the-line” consoles. We’re assuming that is the proper, beat-around-the-bush terminology for “next-gen”, but if we weren’t sure, the text in the bottom right-hand corner of the image clears up any doubts we had.
Naturally, we’ll be sure to stay on top of this story for you. We’re expecting an official announcement tomorrow and we will let you know if any further details become available.
