The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | Most Anticipated of 2014

3

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the final chapter in the trilogy of Geralt of Rivia, which was started in 2007. The Witcher games are loosely based upon the books of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and have been very successful both on PC and consoles. One of the things that we’ve come to expect from this series is amazing branching storylines in a rich fantasy RPG setting, which makes the third chapter one of our most anticipated games of 2014.

The Vision

With an open world that is said to be 20 percent larger than Skyrim, The Witcher 3 promises to introduce us to one of the largest open worlds in RPG history. The world is said to be so large that players will need to travel by boat as well as by mount to get to some of the more distant areas. Along with this the setting of The Witcher 3 will be an organic world where players will experience many unique days and nights in the Northern Kingdoms, where they will see varying weather patterns, NPCs forming unique relationships and intelligent monsters that follow lifelike hunting patterns.

To pull this off developer CD Projekt RED has created the REDengine 3. This engine will enable The Witcher 3 to be a fully realized nonlinear RPG which is said to create “an open environment with a complex, multi-thread story.” The game will feature no loading screens and as a result what players see is exactly what they will get. This will result in a game that will take approximately 100 hours to complete the main story as well as the side quests, and enable it to be released on the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as on the PC.

The Gameplay

The Witcher 3 will feature combat very similar to that of The Witcher 2. Geralt will be able to fight monsters and baddies with the aid of both magic signs as well as his silver and steel swords. Geralt’s fighting style will feature both fast attack options as well as heavy attacks. Players will also have an easier time settling into this game compared to previous entries. Quick time events will not be featured in this game but instead Geralt will rely on defense tactics akin to what we’ve seen in the Batman Arkham series. Combat will also be slower than in previous games to give it a more tactical feeling.

The Witcher 3 promises to be both familiar to hardcore Witchers as well as welcoming to new players and will feature a tutorial at the start to get players better acquainted to the world they are entering.  And unlike previous Witcher games, which featured linear worlds, The Witcher 3 is going to be an open world full of possibility, points of interest and lots to explore. The world will be 35 times larger than The Witcher 2’s world was, and it will be an organic open world. There will be many side quests and areas to explore aside from the main story to keep you interested for many hours. The world will also react to Geralt’s decisions as necessary.

The Story

The story will follow Geralt of Rivia, who is the main protagonist of the previous Witcher games. The world is in ferment, and the deadly Wild Hunt are coming for Geralt. The story of The Witcher 3 will conclude the Witcher saga, but will also be accessible to players who have not played the previous games.

There will be player choices throughout the game, resulting in branching storylines for the campaign. The developers have stated that there will be 36 different endings, as well as 12 states of the world and 3 playable epilogues. This, combined with the many hours of side quests and other open-world activities to pursue, will result in a large amount of replayability and many hours of gameplay.

 _______

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to be a big title from CD Projekt Red coming later this year. It will conclude the saga, and will have many hours of gameplay and a lot of replayability due to its many endings and side quests. It will have a huge open world that changes as the game continues, and looks to have a great story to complement it. There is no confirmed release date yet for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but we know it will release in 2014 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
