To Leave is a narrative-driven platformer launching today that explores concepts such as depression, self-harm, and existential searches for meaning.
Developed by Ecuadorian-based studio Freaky Creations, To Leave combined unorthodox level design with its emotional story. Players will assume the role of Harm, a character suffering from depression. As Harm, players will explore ayahuasca-inspired levels in order to fulfill Harm’s job of harvesting all the souls of the world to enter heaven.
Levels follow the usual routine of platforming, but each stage has a resource called Vibrance that creates a unique risk-reward undertone. If all Vibrance is lost, Harm is sent home, filled with despair. Harm can use this Vibrance to activate Harvesting Shrines, which are keys to his redemption. Players will have to risk Vibrance to achieve this but also stretch Harm’s mental health.
Producer Jorge Blacio described the project as an attempt “to create a ‘digital talisman’ – interactive software that allows players to experience pure ecstasy, rage, and joy.”
To Leave is now available on Steam for USD$7.99, returning to its original price of $9.99 on October 11. To Leave is also available on the PlayStation Store. The game supports both English and Spanish. For more, check out the trailer, embedded below, and be sure to follow OnlySP on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
