Total War: Warhammer II Fourth Playable Race Confirmed

Creative Assembly has officially announced the fourth playable race for Total War: Warhammer II, the sequel to 2016’s Total War: Warhammer.

Total War: Warhammer II’s playable races have been a hot topic since the game’s official announcement in April 2017. Ever since the real-time strategy game’s reveal trailer, speculation has buzzed around the Skaven being one of the title’s debut playable factions. As of today, August 16, 2017, Creative Assembly has officially confirmed the Skaven as Warhammer II’s fourth playable race. Along with this announcement, Creative Assembly posted an in-engine trailer featuring the grotesque rodents.

Total War: Warhammer II will release on September 28, 2017 for PC. Players who preordered the game have received the Norsca as a playable race in the prequel title as of August 10, 2017. At E3, OnlySP had the opportunity to preview Warhammer II, and the game seems to be a masterful addition to Creative Assembly’s newest trilogy.

With a new campaign map that will eventually combine with the Old World (the map featured in the first Total War: Warhammer), Warhammer II is looking to be the biggest world Creative Assembly has created to date. Featuring the Lizardmen, High Elves, Dark Elves, and now the Skaven, the sequel’s playable races are all new to the trilogy.

Released on May 24, 2016, Total War: Warhammer is a real-time strategy game set in a fantasy universe. Developed and published by Creative Assembly and Sega, respectively, the game received mostly-favorable reviews and is the fastest selling Total War game to date (with half a million copies in the first few days).

A break from Total War’s historical iterations, the Warhammer trilogy is Creative Assembly’s biggest project yet. The series provides the company with an outlet for fantasy, and is set to be a trilogy, with the third game linking the campaign maps from all three games together to make one colossal campaign for players.
