Ubisoft Announces Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD for Consoles and Pirates for Mobile

1

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is getting two new installments in addition to the upcoming release of Black Flag with the official reveal of Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD for consoles and Assassin’s Creed Pirates for smartphones and tablets, Ubisoft announced today.

The former is a remake of Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, a PlayStation Vita game that released alongside Assassin’s Creed III as a handheld companion to the main-series game. Pirates is a mobile game dedicated to the wildly popular naval combat mechanics that were introduced in Assassin’s Creed III and are being expanded in Black Flag. Though the game shares many similarities with the upcoming console title, Pirates will have no connections to any other game in the franchise.

In Assassin’s Creed Liberation, the player follows Aveline de Grandpré, an African-French Assassin living in pre-Revolutionary new Orleans. The HD remake will feature upgraded visuals and sounds, as well as several new missions. Liberation HD is being developed by Ubisoft Sofia, the same studio responsible for the original Vita game. It will be released as a digital title for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2014.

In Assassin’s Creed Pirates, the player takes on the role of Alonzo Batilla, a young captain in search of great treasure during the heyday of American piracy. Players will be responsible for managing the ship as well as its crew. Naval combat will occur in real time as players fight to become the most worthy pirate captain in the Caribbean. Ubisoft Paris is developing a brand new engine for the game set to release later this year.

    1. Anyone else get the feeling that AC: Pirates is the naval multiplayer segment that they couldn’t get to work in Black Flag? Except they ported it to mobile where its shortcomings will be looked over…
