Upcoming Collection of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Updates Series With New Look

Telltale’s entire The Walking Dead series will re-release later in the year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series is due out on September 10, 2019. The package will feature every single episode from the four seasons of the franchise. Also included are the ‘400 Days’ DLC and The Walking Dead: Michonne mini-series.

Fans can expect to get some additional extras in with the collection. As well as more than 10 hours of developer commentary and a music player, the new title has a “graphic black” setting. This gives the visuals a more authentic comic book look.

“Graphic black is a loving tribute to the source material and a powerful art style that makes the game look like a living comic book,” explained creative director Kent Mudle. “An idea the team formulated and perfected with The Final Season, this new visual styling offers longtime fans a way to play the series again in a brand-new light while giving new audiences a smooth visual ride across all seasons.”

The future of The Walking Dead came into question last year when Telltale Games was hit with massive layoffs. The firm later shut its doors for good and several projects were cancelled. However, work on the final season of the series continued at Skybound Games, with some of the original team helping out.

Housemarque Reveals First Non-Arcade Game, Stormdivers

In today’s talk at Reboot Develop, indie developer Housemarque revealed its latest game, Stormdivers.

Few details on the project have been revealed so far, but it will use Unreal Engine 4 and have a focus on multiplayer-based gameplay.

Earlier this year, the developer announced a pivot away from the arcade genre that has, heretofore, defined its games, including Super Stardust, Resogun, and Nex Machina. During the talk, the speakers, Housemarque CEO Ilari Kuittinen and Head of Publishing Mikael Haveri also went into more detail about the decision to move away from the primary source of its success.

The developers mentioned that the studio has felt typecast, first in its early years as being focused on snowboarding games and more recently as the torch-bearers for the arcade genre. Despite having met with success in its most recent endeavours, Haveri explored some of the reasons behind the move away from arcade, including mentioning that “the popularity of the genre is winding down,” comparing it to flight simulators and point-and-click adventures, which have similarly dropped off in recent years, and that its games are unable to compete effectively within the current market.

Kuittinen and Haveri also revealed some of the unrealised concepts that the team has worked on, including a standard racing game and a zombie game.
