Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 Will Force Players to Hurt People

Players will be forced to manipulate, anger, and hurt others to achieve anything in Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, according to senior narrative designer Cara Ellison.

Writing in a recent blog about the highly anticipated RPG, Ellison explained that, because of the factionalism within the World of Darkness, “[y]ou can only choose who you hurt.” The post outlines that even trying to act kindly can backfire.

Players will make these difficult choices as they navigate vampire politics in a world where “A lot of […] characters are assholes” (which may make hurting them less guilt-inducing).

The post also discusses how the team is dedicated to providing players with options by focusing on conversation as a key pillar of interaction. When talking with NPCs, players can negotiate, coerce, seduce, and bribe, though combat and avoidance will also be available.

In forcing players to make tough decisions in a dense social world, Ellison is aiming to tap into one of the most strongly regarded aspects of the first game.

Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 is set to release in Q1 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
