Appropriately, the update starts with the phrase in bold “We are not dead!” as it is the first update in nearly a year. Over the past year there have been some alterations in the game world and game design, however no specifics were offered. Currently the game still exists in an early phase of development, with hopes the changes will help to serve as a solid foundation for future development. StrixLab has also promised that they will post regularly on Facebook and Steam about the ongoing progress.
In case you are not in the know, Ad Infinitum is a single player survival horror title based in the trenches of World War One. You must sneak around, as there are dangerous creatures of another world stalking the same muddy hole you’re trapped in and you are without a tool of defence. In addition, you must solve nefarious puzzles to clear the obstacle-ridden way to hopefully get out of the slaughtering ground.
I admit that I am not sure the “no weapon at all” aspect makes sense in a setting like a World War One battlefield. In terms of thematic reasons (i.e. because it is a horror game) I believe it is still possible to be vulnerable with at least a knife or handgun, with very limited ammo pocketed about or with incredibly unforgiving enemies. Then again, it is possible the trenches are not based in any form of reality but rather instead an alternative realm of misery, horror and loathing.
As of yet, there is no release date for Ad Infinitum. It has been confirmed to be coming to PC, with potential to come to Xbox One and/or PS4 as well as the possibility of having VR support. Stay tuned for further updates by following OnlySP on Facebook and Twitter.
