Level-5, the Japanese developer that has made a storm in the West with the Ni No Kuni and Professor Layton franchises, has announced its latest game, Yo-Kai Watch 4, will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
The anime adaptation is scant on details at the moment, but Famitsu confirmed the project will feature characters from the show including Touma Tsukinami, Keisuke Amano, Natsume Amano, and Akinori Arihoshi.
Akihiro Hino, CEO of Level-5, was excited about the title, stating the game’s “content is getting a super high-grade power up, including some things that will surprise everyone.”
For those confused by Yo-Kai Watch, OnlySP’s Gareth Newnham, in his positive review of Yo-Kai Watch: Ghost Town, described the game as “Pokemon crossed with Ghostbusters.” Essentially, the series has proved to be a nice mix of what Level-5 does best, all through a cutsey anime lens.
The Switch exclusivity should be unsurprising for fans of the developer, as Level-5 announced at the end of March that ‘basically’ all of its future titles will be on the Switch.
Level-5’s last game, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, is one of the most critically-acclaimed titles of 2018 so far, with OnlySP’s Damien Lawardorn describing the JRPG as “an incredibly powerful title that has the potential to appeal to people from all walks of life.”
